Match Preview

Cardiff - Merthyr

Cardiff entertain current Premiership Champions Merthyr on Saturday at the Arms Park (2:30)

The Blue & Blacks will be looking to build on the win last week at Rodney Parade and are able to pick a majority of the side that secured a bonus point win.

Head Coach Steve Law said that ‘the coaching team were happy with the performance and endeavour shown by the team at Rodney Parade in what was a pleasing victory in the first game of the season. This week’s challenge will be a different one given we are playing the Champions and it is our first home game. But the boys have put in a lot of hard work and if they show the say attitude and enthusiasm they did last week I’m sure the performance will be there again this week’.

Up front Cardiff pick the same front row as last week. Ben White moves into the back row to allow James Down to make his 101st appearance for the Blue & Blacks. He will partner Corey Tucker in the powerhouse with Tom Wilson and Luke Crocker starting again in the back row.

Lewis Jones starts at scrum half this week having impressed off the bench last. Pat Lewis will be looking to add to his hat-trick of tries from last week with the only other change being on the wing where Ceri Young replaces James Beal as he did last week following Beal’s injury in the second half against the Black and Ambers.

On the bench there is a welcome return to action for Dan Fish. Ryan Spriggs comes onto the bench in place of Ethan Lewis with Reuben Tucker returning to fitness following his injury at Taunton..
