The Blue & Blacks slipped to a first home defeat of the campaign at a windy Cardiff Arms Park. After a promising beginning when they came back from a 3-points’ deficit to deservedly lead 10-3 with the interval approaching they lost the initiative on the brink of half time and never regained control.
Richard Jenkins kicked a 6th minute penalty goal for the visitors that was cancelled by one from Elgan Jones 15 minutes later. In the 25th minute the Blue & Blacks scored their only try after slick combination between Chris John and David Tame in midfield put Leon Andrews clear for the touchdown
Crucially in first half injury time turnover ball was seized on by the visitors in a 70-metre break-out that ended with a try for Joel Griffin at the posts. Jenkins’ simple conversion levelled the scores at 10-all, where they stayed until the 26th minute of the second half. Pooler had camped in the home half for long periods thanks to excellent kicking with the wind at their backs.
Finally the home defence cracked and James Rowles sidestepped through for the winning try, again converted by Jenkins
