Match Report

Cardiff 19 Pontypridd 12

A late try by winger Matthew Nuthall gave the Blue & Blacks the perfect start to the Premier Division campaign. It was a victory built on grit and determination as Owen Ruttley's side fought back from 9-3 down to lead 12-9 thanks to a brace of penalty goals by both Gareth McCarthy and his replacement Chris Anderson.

But with time running out Jason Pocock slotted his fourth goal for Ponty and a stalemate draw was ion the cards. Then Nuthall, who last season scored tries in two games for Ponty against Cardiff, turned the tables when he latched on to an Anderson chip kick to touch down in the corner.
