Match Report

Cardiff 12 Bristol 38

Two second half tries by Liam Roberts and Dan McShane were not enough to save Cardiff are they were out-gunned and out-muscled by Bristol Shoguns at the Arms Park.

The Shoguns were 17 points ahead at the interval and although Dan McShane struck with the Blue & Blacks' first try straight after the restart the home side were never in a position to threaten for long periods.Cardiff's lineout worked well throughout most of the game and there was some promising play in the backs only for turnover ball to be penalised heavily.

Late in the game Liam Roberts scored Cardiff's second try after good work by co-centre Richard Jones but by then the game's result was well and truly settled. The Blue & Blacks will now go into next week's opening Premier Division fixture at home to Pontypridd hoping to build on last season's strong finish.

The Shoguns, meanwhile, will start their English campaign brimming with confidence and a balance of organisation, experience and youthful ambition as they seek to regain a pre-eminent position in their domestic league below the Zurch Premiership.
