Match Report

Cardiff 35 Swansea 8

Cardiff bounced back after two consecutive defeats and secured a bonus points in the process. Swansea though opened the scoring after early Cardiff pressure had nearly led to a score the ball was worked to the other end of the field where wing Johnny Morgan was on hand to score.

Cardiff replied with a penalty by Gareth Davies before Cory Allen set up the first try. Scooping a loose ball he headed for the line before popping a pass inside to Richard Smith to score. A couple of minutes later it was Smith who was the provider, this time Tom Williams was on the end of another move that Allen had initiated. Sam and Gareth Davies swapped penalties just before the break but it was Cardiff who went down the tunnel on top.

The second half pattern followed the first, Cardiff having a majority of the ball and trying to play some rugby. It didn’t always come off, but midway through the second half a Swansea clearance was charged down and Rory Watts-Jones was on hand to score, Davies added the extras.

The bonus point was secured ten minutes from time and it was to be Allen who got his reward for an outstanding display. Davies spotted space out-wide and a clever cross kick bounced up into Allen’s hands and the game was won for the Blue & Blacks.
