Match Report

Cardiff 14 Bridgend 24

Bridgend too the honours in the dead rubber match in Pool 1 at the Arms Park. It was the visitors who dominated the early exchanges and their pack was to get the first points on the board as they shunted the home team pack at a scrum. Two penalties later and referee Harding went under the posts to award a penalty try.

Cardiff hit back through three Joe Griffin penalties to lead at half time, but the Ravens took the lead early in the second half when a catalogue of errors in the home team’s half gifted Bridgend the ball. A series of pick and drives lead to Marc Thomas crashing over from two metres out. Jamie Murphy added the extras and landed two penalties to extend the advantage.

In a scrappy game chances were few and far between and the ball ended up on the floor more than it being in the hands. Cardiff did have one chance that came right at the end of the game. Tom Williams picking up a loose ball to race 70 metres to score a try that might have given the Blue & Blacks a chance. Murphy though landed two late penalties to seal the win and secure third place in the table for Bridgend.
