A hat-trick from Adam Field was the highlight of the 120th anniversary celebration match at Cardiff Arms Park.
In all the Blue & Blacks scored 10 tries. That scoring was opened by Lewis Smout following sustained pressure in the District’s 22. Smout was able to pick up a plunge over from a close range ruck. James Thomas converted. Field’s first try came shortly after when Steve Cullen, returning from injury at full back gave him a simple scoring pass, again Thomas was on target with the extras.
The District got themselves on the scoreboard when Rhys O’Sullivan scrambled over but the home side score three times more before the break. First the other Cardiff winger flew in before Reuben Tucker was driven over after a short range lineout. Captain Shaun Powell then made his own mark on the game scoring an individual try from halfway. Thomas added the conversion to two of those tries before James Hadfield scored for the District to leave the halftime score 33-10 in the home sides favour.
The second half saw Cardiff continue in the same fashion. Powell doubled his account after 60 minutes. Ethan Lewis was then at the heart of another driving maul that saw another score. Thomas converted both before Field completed his hat- trick, showing a clean pair of heels for his second and then finishing off a sweeping backs move. Thomas converted both to leave him with a personal tally of 18 points and a full time score of 68-10 to the home side.
