Cardiff completed a first Premiership double over Aberavon in a scrappy game at Cardiff Arms Park
In conditions that suited a running game Cardiff made the better start. N the third minute Ceiron Thomas landed a simple penalty to put the home side ahead. And when Chris Davies was carded for a high tackle the Blue and Blacks looked as if they would take a strangle hold of the game when they scored the first try.
A quick tapped free kick was run straight up the middle by Nick White and when he was brought down the overlap had been created, prop Lewis Smout showing great hands to put Jack Phillips over in the corner. Jamie Davies got the Wizards on the board just before half time when he notched up his team’s only score.
The second half saw a lot of endeavour from both side but no reward. Aberavon wing Aisea Natoga looked dangerous whenever he had the ball but he was closed down quickly by the Cardiff defence. A rolling maul nearly brought Aberavon level but the ball went forward just short of the line and Cardiff were able to clear.. Cardiff had a chance to seal the win with five minutes left when Joe Griffin chased a kick through only to watch it roll into touch just short of the line. It was left to Thomas to finish the scoring as he took away Aberavon’s bonus with the last kick of the match.
