Cross Keys scored a bonus point win at the Arms Park in a game that will be remembered for the wrong reasons as a mass fight broke out after the final whistle.
Cardiff had started brightly but couldn’t get a score on the board in the first ten minutes despite having most of the territory. Cross though dominated from there until the end. Their first try was scored after a kick penalty saw Nathan Trowbridge. Score in the corner. Dorian Jones adding the extras and a further penalty before Ceiron Thomas got Cardiff’s account open with a similar effort. That was the end of the scoring until after half time.
Cardiff made a dreadful start to the second period. A charged down kick led to a try by Elliot Jones. That was followed by a third when former Cardiff player Adam Powell charged over. Powell was at the heart of the Keys effort and when he was stopped just short Dorian Jones was on hand to score the bonus point try. He was also on target with his boot adding two further penalties and a long range drop goal as well as two conversions giving him a match tally of 23 points. Sam Feehan got a late try for the home side that Jack Maynard converted, but the game was marred at the final whistle as a mass punch up saw Tom Lampard red carded as both sides let off frustrations that had been brewing all game.
