Match Report

Cardiff 13 - Pontypridd 31

Pontypridd took a step closer to the Premiership play-offs with a bonus point win over fellow Regional side Cardiff. Ponty had the better of the opening exchanges and were ahead after fifteen minutes when Gavin Dacey raced through a hole, Dai Flanagan converted and added a penalty shortly after to extend the lead. That looked as if it might open the floodgates but Cardiff’s defence was on top form to keep the visitors at bay. The gates though were broken before half time when Dafydd Lockyer sailed past two tacklers to score. Dean Gunter ot the home side on the board shortly before the break with a close range penalty.

Geriant Walsh extended Pontys lead shortly after the break as first a rolling maul followed by a well worked backs move created a try. Cardiff though came right came back into the game. Thomas Pascoe pounced on a ball that appeared to have gone forward then impressive No 8 Oliver Cracknell shunted his way over along with three tacklers. But Pontypridd response was instant as former Blue & Black Dan Godfrey found his way to the line from a maul. And the win was sealed when first a Flanagan penalty followed by one from Lewis K Williams found the target to send the visiting supporters home happy.
