Match Report

Ebbw Vale 36 Cardiff 18

Ebbw Vale maintained second place in the Principallity Premiership as the gained a bonus point win at Eugene Cross Park.

The game was almost as good as sealed in the first half as Ebbw ran in three tries to take total control. The first came as early as the tenth minute. A penalty had set up field position ear the Cardiff line and when the rolling maul was set up Gethin Robinson was on hand to score. Dean Gunter got Cardiff going with a penalty but another Ebbw maul resulted in the second try. When the maul was brought down full back Dan Haymond picked up the ball and wriggled through some weak tackling to touch down. Gunter was on target with his second successful kick to keep the Blue & Blacks in touch but just before half time John Lavender wnt over in the corner following another forward drive.

The second half started much the same as the first had finished with the home pack happy to take the ball up the field and it was no surprise when Damien Hudd went over to seal the bonus point. The game then became very scrapy as Ebbw kwent off the boil. Cardiff tried hard to get things going but nothing seemed to work. Ronny Kynes extended Ebbw's lead again from short range. That try was cancelled out when Jack Phillips took a short penalty near the home line to score. Veteran Wes Cunliffe scored with the clock showing time before Gunter rounded off the scoring. Ebbw were deserved winners on the day but the Blue & Blacks will be looking to get back on track before next Friday's game in the cup against Bridgend.
