Match Report

Cardiff 27 - Llanelli 15

Cardiff beat Llanelli for the first time in five attempts and gained a bonus point at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park

The first ten minutes was a pretty tight affair as both side probed for openings. Dean Gunter had two early attempts to give Cardiff the lead but was wide on both occasions. His kicking did though lead to the first try as an up and under bounced nicely into George Watkins hands on half way, the winger did the rest to score. Steffan Evans replied in kind for the visitors and Frazier Climo was on target with the extras and a penalty to give Llanelli a 10-8 half time lead.

The second half though belonged to the Blue & Blacks. Scrum half Tom Slater picked up a loose ball at the base o a ruck to run in unopposed to regain the lead. Next it was the forwards who showed their power as a five metre scrum was collapsed as it went towards the Llanelli line. Referee Morris awarding a penalty try that was bettered by Gunter. The defence then took over to protect that lead,  Ethan Lewis and Shaun Powell leading the charge. And when Cardiff got the ball back Will Rees Hole created an opening that Salter was able to exploit. He fed Watkins who scored the bonus point try. Late on Climo score was was only to be a consolation try for Llanelli.
