A ten minute period late in the first half cost the Blue & Blacks as Ponty ran in three tries that put the home side in control of the game.
Cardiff had started brightly controlling the first twenty minutes of the game. All they had to show for it though was a Dean Gunter penalty. Territory and possession had both been in Cardiff's favour until the home side decided to work the ball wide from inside their twenty two. The Blue &'Blacks suddenly forgot how to tackle. Ponty burst through tackle after tackle before Garyn Smith finished off the first try. Jarred Evans added the conversion to put Ponty in a lead they were not to relinquish. From the kick off the home side were at it again. They worked the ball wide and again the Blue & Blacks forgot to tackle. On run straight up the middle by Aled Summerhill was finished off by Lewis Williams, Evans again on target with the extras.
And the try spree continued two minutes later when once again tackling became optional for the visitors as Joel Raikes scored the first of his two tries to send Ponty in 21-3 up at the break.
After the interval Pat Palmer gave the home side a bonus point that all but secures top spot. Cardiff tried hard to get into the game but were thwarted by the home defence that held solid until the 54th minute. A break by Callum Lewis was supported by Thomas Pascoe who found Harry Davies who went over under the posts to give the visitors some hope. Gunter converted but it was purely consolation as the Ponty half backs, who had run the game grabbed a try each. Evans scored with 5 minutes left before Raikes scored his second as the referee blew for no side.
