Cardiff came away from the Brewey Field with only a losing bonus point to show for their effort.
With an early kick off it was Bridgend that struck first, an early penalty by outside half Joe Scrivens put them tow points up. The Blue & Blacks struck back immediately. Pressure from the kick off gave the visitors a lineout in the home half, and when the ball was worked across the field and back an overlap was created. Owen Lane was able to slip a pass out of the tackle to put Harry Davies over in the corner.
And the lead was extended when a loose ball was hacked into the Ravens half. From the resulting ruck the ball was again moved wide, this time skipper Marc Breeze the beneficiary of the final pass. Callum Hall converted from wide out. Bridgend scored their first try of the game shortly after. A mix up in the visitors defence meant having to minor the ball. From the resulting 5 metre scrum No8 Lloyd Evans went over for a try that Scrivens converted.
That made the score 14-10 to the Blue & Blacks at half time, but that was as good as it got. A very scrappy second half wasn’t helped by poor handling from both sides. Bridgend retook the lead when Zach O’Driscoll ploughed over from a short line out. Cardiff huffed and puffed but controlling the ball was the biggest issue. The Ravens hurried and scrambled and stopped any momentum the Blue & Blacks tried to gain. And the game was won when with three minutes to go Ashton Evans scored in the corner for a try that went unconverted.
