Cardiff held off a late Bedwas fightback to win this entertaining Premiership game at the BT Sport Arms Park.
The Blue & Blacks were first to score. Straight from the kick off the home team regathe red the ball and worked a position near the Bedwas line. The visitors lineout was disrupted as it was all game by Lou Reed and James Goode before a drive at the line was stopped. Nick White though was on hand to go over from five metres out. David Bird added the extras from wide out. Bedwas were on level terms within 10 minutes. Another lineout was worked wide for Aled Brew to score. James Dixon converted.
Back came Cardiff and with the forwards dominant it wasn't a surprise to see No8 Cam Dolan go over from the back of a scrum. Bird was again on target with the extras as he was just before the break. The pack were again responsible for the try but it came after several breaks by the backs. When the ball got five meters from the line White picked up to dive over. That sent the Blue & Blacks in 24-8 up at half time.
Early in the second half Bird extended that lead with a penalty but both sides were guilty of failing to finish off several opportunities before the Bedwas fightback began. Brew scored his and his teams second try with 10 minutes left and when Tom Rowlands crossed from a short range tap penalty there were a few minutes of injury time left for the visitors to try to win the game. And they threw everything at the home side who were also a man down. But the defence held firm and when the Blue & Blacks gained a penalty the ball was smashed into row Z as the referee blew for no side.
