Cardiff just came through their first pre-season test with a win against Barry at Reservoir Fields.
It started brightly when after four minutes outside half Gareth Thompson spotted room on the blind side to put Joe Casella over in the corner, the outside half goaling the try.
Barry though fought back, a tenth minute penalty got them on the board and it got even better in the 23rd minute when after constant pressure the scored a converted try in the corner before extending that lead just before half time with another penalty.
The second half was played out in a monsoon. Scrum half Adam Williams got the Blue & Blacks back into contention as he scampered over down the blind side of a line out, and when Max Woodward gather a kick through from Joe Griffin to score under the posts they regained the lead.
Barry weren’t done though, a penalty brought them to within one score and they so nearly gained a deserved draw when a late penalty went just wide.
Cardiff though will be happy with the win but know there will be a lot of work to do before next week’s game against London Scottish.
