Cardiff RFC are delighted to announce the signing of former Llanelli Scarlets Johnathan Edwards and Ceiron Thomas for the 2013/14 season.

Edwards – an old boy of Cardiff RFC – played 119 times for the Scarlets, scoring 60 points in a seven year stay in Llanelli. One of the most popular players at Parc-Y-Scarlets Edwards will bring a wealth of experience to the Blue & Black back row.

Ceiron Thomas will add his extensive knowledge of game management to the Cardiff back- line.Having played 49 times for the Scarlets he then joined Leeds who he guided back to the top flight of English rugby before joining steering the Cornish Pirates to the National League One play-offs

Another former Cardiff player also makes a welcome return. Tom Slater – who joined Bristol following his first spell at the Arms Park – returns having spent three seasons across the bridge. And the former players don’t stop with Slater. Also returning home is Luke Ford following several seasons at Neath. Ford, son of Cardiff top try scorer Steve, will bring with him much needed experience to the Cardiff mid-field.

Also amongst the backs signings for next season is Polu Uhi – the Ebbw Vale wing impressing in scoring for his former club in the SWALEC cup game in March. Scarlets Academy outside half Jack Maynard and promising wing full back Danny Wardle; will also add to the talents already available to the Blue & Blacks.

In the pack Edwards is joined in the back row by Sam Feeham – the former Bedwas man notable for scoring the winning try for the Bridge Field outfit at the Arms Park in April. Second row Miles Normandale signs from Cardiff Met and Aaron Elliot is added to the front row resources.

Speaking of the signings Director of Rugby Martyn Fowler said’  This is the first time that we as a coaching team can lay claim to having a squad that were totally happy with, on several occasions this season we were in the game and indeed in the lead with more than 30 minutes left on the clock only to lose through inexperience and questionable game management.

We have strengthened an already impressive pack with the signings of Sam Feehan; lock Miles Normandale, young Aaron Elliot a huge tighthead from Bargoed and a proven leader in Johnathan Edwards.

Behind, We have a wealth of experience and proven game managers in Tom Slater at 9, Ceiron Thomas at 10 and Luke Ford at 13, All three are game breakers and will lead from the front at all training sessions and games and give us much needed problem solvers in the changing rooms and on the Premiership pitches.

All of our youngsters have a years Premiership exposure under there belts and without doubt they have improved every time they put the shirt on which stands us in good stead for next season.

After using 80+ players last year, the additions to this improving squad will give us much needed continuity and buy in. With the level of player now on board strengthening our squad and with relegation returning to the Premiership campaign there will be a level of accountability that in turn will demand conistenceny of performance starting on June 11th when our pre season starts.’
