Cross Keys 35 Cardiff 27
Cardiff came away from Pandy Park with nothing other than more names to add to an increasing injury list. Miles Normandale and Tom Daley both limped out of the game during the second half with ankle injuries.
Cardiff started the game with some ambition when they had the ball but that was to lead to the first try. Having ambition is a good sign but there are times to use it and when the Blue & Blacks tried to run from their own twenty-two the pass was read by Lewis Barnett who scored under the posts, Josh Prosser converted. The Keys lead was doubled a few minutes later when hooker Rob Jones went over following a series of drives at the Cardiff line.
The Blue & Blacks got on the scoresheet through a penalty by Ben Jones and he was on target with the conversion of Cardiff's first try. Rhodri Cole has burst down the blind side to set up a great position and when a penalty was pushed into the corner the lineout drive was halted. Cardiff recycled the ball well and when Miles Normandale picked it up in the centre his long strides carried him to the line to send Cardiff in 14-10 behind.
Keys stretched their lead when Nathan Trowbridge crossed, but that spurred Cardiff to go straight down the other end for a score of their own. A series of penalties had landed Cardiff five metres out and following a few more drives at the line James Murphy went over. But the Keys were to extend their advantage from a lineout the saw Scott Matthews fly down the blind side to feed Lee Evans. Cardiff then gave Keys their fifth try when they tried to exit their own twenty-two. The clearing kick was charged down by Owain Leonard who was able to fall on the ball just before it went dead.
Cardiff tried to mount a comeback in the final ten minutes and managed to score another forwards try, when Kris Smith went over. It was too little too late as the referee blew for no side with score 35-27 in the Keys favour.
