Charles Lyn 'Cowboy' Davies was born in Bancyfelin, Wales and attended Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and later Trinity College, Carmarthen.
Davies played rugby from a young age and represented the Wales Schools team. As an adult he played for Blaengarw RFC, Carmarthen Athletic RFC, Glamorgan Wanderers RFC, Llanelli RFC and Cardiff RFC.
It was when playing for Cardiff that he was selected to represent Wales winning three caps. All his international appearances were part of the 1956 Five Nations Championship and his first match was against England under the captaincy of Cliff Morgan, scoring a try on his debut after a 40 yard dash. .
