John "Jack" Alf Brown nickname Big John played club rugby for Cardiff RFC and county rugby for Glamorgan.

He first came to note as a rugby player playing for local Cardiff side St Peters and was vice captain until he moved to Cardiff RFC in 1901.He was made vice captain of Cardiff RFC during 1907/08 season until he left in 1910. John played 10 seasons for the club and appeared in 221 matches and scored 12 tries.

He was capped for Wales 7 times making his debut against England in 1907
