Lewis Cobden Thomas was a Welsh international union forward who played club rugby for both Neath and Cardiff RFC.

Born on 6th August 1865 and educated at Aberystwyth University, he became a solicitor in Neath and was elected to the town council in 1897. By 1900 Lewis had been elected mayor.

Thomas was also a powerful swimmer and rescued a man who was drowning in the Deep Pool, Pontsarn in Merthyr. For this heroic action he was awarded the Certificate of the Royal Humane Society.

LC Thomas played for Cardiff RFC in the seasons 1883/4-1884/5 and played 12 first team games. Lewis made his Welsh debut against England in 1885 and received his second cap against Scotland.

LC Thomas died on April 14th 1928 aged 62.
