Dr William J Roche - born 1895 in Limerick, Ireland - was an Irish rugby union player who represented Munster, Ireland and the British Lions.  He also played club rugby for University College Cork, Cardiff and Newport RFC,

Roche gained three international caps for Ireland, he was selected for the 1924 British lions tour of South Africa, however he didn't play in any of the test matches.

Bill Roche joined Newport in 1920 but moved west to play for Cardiff in the 1921-2 season, playing 22 games for the Blue and Blacks. After only one season he rejoined Newport for the 1922-3 season playing there until 1926-7, making 156 appearances and scoring 22 tries.

William Roche died in June 1983.
