Wynford Davies was born in Pontypridd on 22 November 1926 and educated at Pontypridd Grammar School and Cardiff University, where he gained a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Divinity. He played and captained Pontypridd Schools in 1945 - 46 and played seven first team games for Cardiff in the 1949 - 50 season after making his debut against Neath on 17th December 1949.
At the age of 19 he was picked for Wales, making his debut against Scotland at Cardiff Arms Park on 19th January 1946. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1960 to work as a Chaplain in the Church. Reverend Wynford Davies passed away in Christchurch on September 5th 2014 aged 87..
