Born in Williton, Somerset Jack Richards was educated at Monmouth School (where he was Head Boy) and Cambridge University, playing for Newport, London Welsh and Cardiff (for whom he made two appearances in the 1938 – 9 seaso), East Wales. When war broke out in 1939 Richards joined the Royal Engineers
involved in bomb disposal and was killed in action in 1944. He is buried in Jonkerbos War Memorial Cemetery, Gelderland, Netherlands.
