Gwyn Martin

Gwyn Martin was born in Penygraig, Rhondda in 1921. He was still at School when he volunteered for the RAF in 1939. As an RAF navigator he was awarded the DFM and spent two and a half years as a POW in Stalag Luft. After he left the RAF, and studying at University to become a Pharmacist, he played for Cardiff, Aberavon and Llanelli and also appeared in the Welsh final trials of 1946 - 47. In 1948 Gwyn moved to Aberystwyth to became a partner in his father-in-law’s pharmacy business and there he played for Aberystwyth, later becoming the club’s president 

A keen and distinguished photographer he was president of the camera club from 1958 onwards and many of his photographs are represented in the National library of Wales. His autobiography, Up and Under was published in 1989.

Gwyn died in 2001 in Aberystwyth at the age of 80.
